Integration of Plant Based Pediococcus probiotic (PA5051®) into Freeze-dried products as functional
Updated: Oct 8, 2019
Information of a new plant-based, non-spore forming probiotic, PA5051®, was presented by Dr. J.J. Lin, chief scientist of Imagilin Technology, LLC, on April 29, 2019. Results from the study, “Probiotics freeze-dried products as functional pet treats or as functional ingredients for pet foods,” in PetFood Forum, April 30, 2019 at Kansas City, Mo., showed that PA5051® supplemented the digestive and immune systems of both humans and animals. PA5051® is also exceptionally resistant to high temperatures (up to 185° F) while being resistant to stomach acids and tolerant to antibiotic treatments as well. This stability allows PA5051® to reach the gastrointestinal tract to take effect and also makes the probiotic easily integrable into freeze-dried products such as meats, fruits, and vegetables. Freeze-drying products allows the food to retain most of its flavor, color, and texture. This process also keeps the nutritional value of the food with minimal processing involved. PA5051® can even be prepared in different sizes, giving it the flexibility to be used in specialized pet treats or just as an ingredient in pet food without affecting the characteristics of PA5051®. This makes PA5051® the choice probiotic to be used in freeze-dried products for pets.
